Muscles

Muscle is a word derived from the Greek word ‘mus’ which means mouse. If we look at the structure of the muscle, its belly is just like the body of mouse and its tendon resembles the tail of the mouse. There are 650 muscles in our body. They maintain our body structure as the whole body is covered by the muscles. The whole muscle is covered by an outer covering which is called epimycium. There are 75 pairs of muscles in our body which maintains our posture only whether we are sitting or standing. Muscles are composed of large number fascicles which are further consisting of myofibrils and filaments. The major filaments of muscles are myosin and actin. They overlap due to some mechanism to produce contraction in muscles due to which we carry out our daily routine work like walking, moving. Muscles show striations due to these filaments when seen under electron microscope. They are the most important part of our body. They produce heat in the body. They help in the locomotion of our body. Muscles are of many kinds in our body.

Cardiac muscles are present in the heart. They carry out the contraction of heart. They are branched and have only single nucleus. Smooth muscles are present in the different organs like digestive system, urinary system, in tongue and intestines too. They help in the contraction of these organs. they are multinucleated.  The third kinds of muscles are skeletal muscles which are attached to the skeleton. They mainly help in the movement of our body.  Muscles can be built stronger by doing exercise. Sometimes muscles become weak or flaccid which results in the inactiveness of that body part. So in order to keep the body sturdy one should have enough strong muscles. Good habits of taking exercise daily and breathing fresh oxygen helps to strengthen our muscles all the way.
